Cranes are overhead lifting systems that lift, move and lower heavy items. There are a number of different types of industrial crane in WY, and it is important to have the proper one for a job. It takes a specially trained professional to operate a crane, and they should know which type is the best for any given project. However, when in need of one, it would be helpful to have some knowledge about the different kinds of industrial crane in WY. The four main types of industrial cranes are: Bridge Crane Used in large factories, bridge cranes run on an elevated platform or runway that resembles a bridge. The runway runs the length of a factory and has a horizontal beam that moves across the length of the beam. Some bridge cranes have single beams and others have double. Double beam cranes can hold very heavy loads. There are three axis hooks; X, Y, and Z axis hooks. Items are moved back and forth by the bridge of the crane. The hoist moves items up and down, and what is termed the trolley moves items side to side or left to right. Gantry Crane A gantry crane is similar to a bridge crane with the exception of the runway which is at ground level. Gantry cranes come in all sizes; some are used in factories and others are used outdoors. This kind of industrial crane in WY can lift extremely heavy loads and are quite versatile. Jib Crane The jib crane is one that has a pivoting head, or boom, that is supported by a floor mounted column. The pivoting head can also be attached to the wall. The boom has a hoist and trolley system attached to it. The boom can normally rotate either 180 degrees or 360 degrees depending on the way it is mounted. The methods used to rotate the boom are either motorized or manual. Tower Crane Tower cranes are large industrial cranes that are used to help erect buildings or other very large projects. The tower crane is a tall crane that is mounted in the ground or to a structure. They can lift very heavy loads to high heights. The vertical part of the crane is referred to as the mast; the horizontal part is the jib. The crane uses a balance system. A hook is located at one end of the jib to lift materials. Cement blocks are usually what are used on the opposite end of the jib to balance the load that is being lifted. Tower cranes require highly trained professionals to run them. They can be run from a compartment that is usually located at the top of the mast, or from the ground using remote control. There are a number of other types for industrial cranes in WY. Most jobs will use one of the above cranes, but there are situations that require other specialty cranes. Sky cranes are usually attached to helicopters and can lift extremely heavy loads. Sky cranes are often used to help put out fires. They can carry large buckets of water from a lake or river to the fire and dump them from above. They are also used to help with disaster situations. Floating cranes and crane vessels are used for offshore construction, bridge construction and other projects that need to be reached from the water. Railroad cranes are seen moving along railroad tracks and are an excellent crane for certain types of construction and repair.
